KLANG: Jeram assemblyman Mohd Shaid Rosli (pic) has left Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and claims that many more will be doing the same soon.
Shaid, who is also the party’s Kuala Selangor division chief, said he would make an official announcement on his departure from the party at a press conference in Setia Alam on Saturday (Aug 8).
He also said the Kuala Selangor division would be disbanded.
“This will be the first division to be disbanded and I am the first Bersatu state assemblyman in Selangor to leave the party,” he said.
Besides him, there are four other Bersatu assemblymen in Selangor.
Shaid said his decision to quit Bersatu was spurred by the new party to be established by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.
“I will join the new party when it is registered. Until then I will be an independent assemblyman,” said Shaid.
He said other divisions would also follow suit as many had lost faith in the party and its leadership.
Shaid said Bersatu’s collaboration with Umno was a huge let-down for many party members.
“The Bersatu leadership did not discuss the collaboration with its grassroots members. This is unacceptable for us,” he added.
Meanwhile, sources say that the party’s Klang division will also be disbanded later today.
Dr Mahathir announced on Friday (Aug 7) that he would be forming a new Malay and bumiputra-based party.
