Cops arrest five in Port Dickson for allegedly being part of unregistered society

PORT DICKSON: The police have arrested five men here for allegedly being members of an unregistered society.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamad said the suspects are aged between 30 and 58 and were arrested after pictures of a gathering held to celebrate the anniversary of the setting up of the society were uploaded on social media.

“On April 18, a group of locals had a cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate the society’s anniversary and the preliminary investigation showed that several individuals from other groups were also present, ” said Supt Aidi Sham.

He added that the first suspect was arrested at Dataran Segar on the same night and said that the other four were arrested shortly after.

Supt Aidi said that the police are now looking for more suspects, and added that that the police seized a t-shirt with a Nazi symbol on it.

He also said that two mobile phones were seized from the suspects and both phones had clips of the anniversary celebration on them.

“Background checks on the suspects revealed that only one had two previous criminal records,” he said.

He said the case was being investigated under section 52(3) of the Societies Act 1966 and under the Act, offenders can be jailed for up to five years, or fined not more than RM15,000 if found guilty.

“We would like to advise the public not to become members of an unregistered group or get involved in any illegal activity.

“The police view this seriously and will take appropriate action against those involved in such activities,” he added.
