NSC allows Batu Caves Thaipusam chariot procession, no stops allowed and limited to 10 people

PETALING JAYA: The National Security Council (NSC) has given the nod for the Thaipusam chariot procession from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam in Jalan Tun HS Lee to the Batu Caves temple on Jan 27.

In a tweet on Saturday (Jan 23), Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said approval had also been given for the chariot to return on Jan 29, a day after Thaipusam.

However, he said the chariot would not be allowed to make any stops along the way, a maximum of 10 people would be allowed to accompany the chariot and no music would be allowed along the way.

“DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) will be monitoring to ensure compliance as usual,” he said.

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam management had proposed for the chariot to continue with its customary journey but without the usual procession and for the non-stop journey back after the celebration.
