Sabah STAR deputy president quits party amid looming polls

KOTA KINABALU: As seat negotiations begin to intensify amid the looming state polls, Kong Fui Seng has announced his resignation as the Sabah STAR deputy president.

Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan confirmed that Kong has quit the party.

“He (Kong) has met me, told me he had met with Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. I have yet to receive his letter. It’s an issue of office politics which he couldn’t handle, ” said Kitingan briefly when contacted on Monday (Sept 7).

Kong previously contested the Melalap and Liawan state seats in 2013 and 2018 respectively, where he lost both seats.

It is learnt that Kong will hand over his application letter to join Parti Warisan Sabah when its president Shafie Apdal visits Keningau this Wednesday (Sept 9).

Kong’s resignation came amid intensifying seat negotiations involving the Sabah Opposition alliance.

Nominations for the 16th Sabah elections have been set for this Saturday (Sept 12) while polling is on Sept 26.
