PETALING JAYA: Sarawak PKR supports its party president and deputy president, says its chairman Baru Bian (pic).
Baru, who is also Works Minister, said that Sarawak PKR stands firm behind PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali amidst the scandal currently plaguing the party.
“As party members, we stand behind the president, the deputy president, the central leadership council (MPP), and all duly elected leaders of PKR.
“Party elections are not due till 2021 and there are no challenges for any positions in the party currently,” he said in a statement Saturday (July 27).
Baru also called for Anwar and Azmin to unite the party, adding that they were the two people in the party who were able to do so.
“It is time to close ranks and focus on our next mission, which is to win the Sarawak state election coming up within the next two years,” he added.
He also said that Sarawak PKR condemned “gutter politics” in all forms, adding that political leaders have the responsibility to set good examples to the younger generation.
“Those who resort to these deplorable tactics betray their lack of maturity, intelligence and integrity.
“Now that the government has lowered the voting age to 18 , and we are trying to encourage the younger generation to take an interest in the governance of this nation, politicians need to set good examples and become worthy role models for them,” he added.
Recently, both Anwar and Azmin have been involved in a public spat over the sex video scandal issue.
For the past month, clips of a sex video featuring two men were circulated to media personnel and PKR members.
Former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz had confessed publicly that he was one of the two men in the video and alleged that the other person was Azmin.
Azmin has since denied any involvement in the sex video, dismissing the scandal as a “nefarious plot” to destroy his political career.
Anwar said Azmin should resign if he was conclusively identified as one of the two men in a viral sex video.
Azmin, in response, said Anwar should do some self-reflection and “look at the man in the mirror”.
